Weiser Airport (S87)
From Parma we followed the train tracks directly to the river and the river straight into Weiser. Now Weiser is cool, but feels like a ghost town. Walking into my first unattended airport lounge was a bit creepy, the furniture seems to be sitting in the exact location as it was originally placed some 30 years ago. The facilities are clean but is almost feels like a light layer of dust covers everything making you think you just discovered a unknown relic of the past.
Tips: Bring garlic, silver bullets and a wooden cross, because this airport might actually be haunted!
Questions: Is it a bad idea to fly straight into an unattended airport or should you always cross midfield before entering a pattern to land? How do you know if a airport has a lounge or a airport car?
I’m not a huge fan of straight in approaches when flying VFR. It’s doable, but if you always attempt to fly a pattern the same way, it’s easier to duplicate a nice stabilized approach every time. A good landing starts with a good approach.
