About

So last summer I worked hard to get my pilots license, after which I flew once (with my mom – the bravest woman I know) and then stopped flying for about six-months. The cold, travel schedule, family, work, the mind reading devices our government puts into airplanes were some of my excuses. But the simple fact was that I needed a new goal.

The New Goal: Fly to all the paved runways in the state of Idaho, there are about 60 of them and I have them broken out into about ten different cross country trips. Originally a Boise native I just moved back after a decade long adventure and am looking forward to getting reacquainted with the great state of Idaho.

Why Blog: So one of the most critical factors in learning is getting feedback, with each flight I plan to take the time and rethink what I could have done differently and ask a few questions. I really hope that other pilots take the time and give me some feedback so we can all learn together.

Another aspect yet to be implemented is trying to raise money for a charitable cause or create some awareness about one of the many things I’m passionate about. This is in the very early stages of thinking but I am considering asking my friends, family, readers, etc to donate a couple pennies for every mile I fly with a bonus after hitting the final airport. For instance if you donate $0.01 for every mile figuring my summer will consist of about 2,000 miles that would be a $20 donation, then add a $5 bonus for landing at my 60th airport for a total of $25 dollars made payable to XYZ charity. — if you have some thoughts on this please do let me know. If you would be interested that too would be nice to know.

Hey Ron, like the blog. Have fun and be safe. The 60 paved airports goal is a fun one. There have been several other groups doing something similar. There are others that their goal is to hit every backcountry or unpaved airstrip in Idaho.

Hey Ron, Greg here from the Boise Zoo this morning. Just thought I’d check out your blog. Nice work. I’ll certainly go fly with you sometime.
